ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ: ಅಕ್ಷರದ ದೀಪ ಬೆಳಗಿಸಿದ ಅವ್ವ

         ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಗೆ ಅಕ್ಷರವೇ ಅಪರಾಧವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಹಿಡಿದು, ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಧೈರ್ಯ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೊರಟ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗಳು ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ. ಅವರು ಕೇವಲ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ ಅಲ್ಲ; ಅವರು ಒಂದು ಚಳವಳಿ, ಒಂದು ಯುಗ, ಒಂದು ಜೀವಂತ ಚೇತನ.

       ಇಂದು ನಾವು ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಭಾರತ, ಮಹಿಳಾ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ಎಂದು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ, ಆ ಎಲ್ಲದ ಬೇರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌನವಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಹೆಸರು – ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ.

ಕಲ್ಲು-ಕೆಸರಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ

       1848ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಣೆಯ ಭಿಡೇವಾಡಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕಿಯರಿಗಾಗಿ ಶಾಲೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸುವುದು ಅಂದಿನ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಸವಾಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಲ್ಲು, ಮಣ್ಣು, ಕೆಸರು ಎಸೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ತಮ್ಮ ಸೀರೆಯನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮತ್ತೆ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

        ಅದು ಕೇವಲ ಹಠವಲ್ಲ – ಅದು ಮುಂದಿನ ತಲೆಮಾರಿನ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಮೇಲಿನ ತಾಯಿ ಹೃದಯದ ನಂಬಿಕೆ.

         ಇಂದು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳು ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ಇನ್ನೂ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಘಟನೆಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಬಾಲ್ಯವಿವಾಹ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬಡತನ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಒತ್ತಡ – ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಎದುರಿಸಿದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳೇ, ಆದರೆ ಶತಮಾನ ಬದಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಮಾತ್ರ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಅಗತ್ಯ

ಇಂದಿಗೂ ನಾವು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ:

 "ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರೋಧಿಸುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿ"

"ಶಾಲೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಬಾಲಕಿಯರು"

"ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವಹೇಳನ"

"ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಿಂಗಭೇದ"

ಇಂತಹ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ ಅವರ ಹೋರಾಟ ಕೇವಲ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಲ್ಲ; ಅದು ಇಂದಿನ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ದಾರಿ ತೋರಿಸುವ ದೀಪ.

"ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ಉಚ್ಚ ಶಿಖರ"

       ಪ್ಲೇಗ್ ಮಹಾಮಾರಿಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ರೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಗಲ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊತ್ತು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ, ಇಂದು ಕೋವಿಡ್-19 ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವದ ಹಂಗಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕರು, ಆಶಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತೆಯರ, ನರ್ಸ್‌ಗಳ, ವೈದ್ಯರ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಂತೆ ಅನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

         ವಿಧವೆಯರಿಗಾಗಿ ‘ಬಾಲಹತ್ಯಾ ಪ್ರತಿಬಂಧಕ ಗೃಹ’ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ ಅವರ ಚಿಂತನೆ, ಇಂದು ಅನಾಥ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆಶ್ರಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳು, ಮಹಿಳಾ ಪುನರ್ವಸತಿ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಶಸ್ತ್ರ – ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿಯ ಸಂದೇಶ

“ಓದು, ಬರಹ, ವಿಚಾರ – ಇವುವೇ ಮಾನವನ ನಿಜವಾದ ಆಭರಣ” ಎಂಬ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿಯ ತತ್ವ ಇಂದು:

 * ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆ ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವ ಚಳವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ

* ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ

* ದಲಿತ, ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಹೋರಾಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ

* ನಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿರುವ ಸವಾಲುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಕೇವಲ ಜಯಂತಿ ಆಚರಣೆ ಸಾಕೆ?

ಜನವರಿ 3ರಂದು ಹೂಮಾಲೆ ಹಾಕುವುದು ಸಾಕಲ್ಲ.

ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿಯ ಕನಸು ಸಾಕಾರಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದರೆ:

ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವೂ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬೇಕು

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರವಾಗದೆ ಹಕ್ಕಾಗಬೇಕು

ಮಹಿಳೆ ಗೌರವದಿಂದ ಬದುಕುವ ಸಮಾಜ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗಬೇಕು ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ ಬದುಕಬೇಕು.

ಕೊನೆಯದಾಗಿ…

       ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ ಅಕ್ಷರ ಕಲಿಸಿದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ ಅಲ್ಲ,

ಅವರು ಅಕ್ಷರಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಥ ಕಲಿಸಿದ ತಾಯಿ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಪಡುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವಿನ ಹಿಂದೆ, ಮೌನವಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ – ಸಾವಿತ್ರಿಬಾಯಿ ಫುಲೆ.

ಅವರು ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಪುಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲ,

ನಮ್ಮ ಆತ್ಮಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.

        In a society where letters were once a crime for women, Savitribai Phule was a woman who set out with a book in her hand and courage in her heart. She was not just a teacher; she was a movement, an era, a living spirit.

          Today, when we talk about Digital India, women's empowerment, and the education revolution, there is a name that stands silently at the roots of all of them – Savitribai Phule.

 An education revolution born amidst stones and mud 

       Starting a school for girls in Bhidewada, Pune in 1848 was a challenge for the society of that time. Stones, mud, and mud were thrown at Savitribai on her way to school. But she did not turn back. She would change her saree and go back to school.

       That was not just stubbornness – that was a mother's heart's faith in the future of the next generation.

         Today, in rural India, incidents of girls dropping out of school even when they go to school are still happening.  Child marriage, economic poverty, social pressure – all these are the problems that Savitribai faced, but the only difference is that the century has changed.

Savitribai is needed in today's times

Even today we see:

"A mentality against girls' education"

"Girls leaving school to work"

"Denigration of women on social media"

"Gender discrimination in employment"

In such situations, Savitribai Phule's struggle is not just history; it is a beacon that shows the way to today's society.

"The highest peak of humanity in social service"

        Savitribai, who carried patients to hospitals on her shoulders during the plague epidemic, seems to have reappeared in the form of social workers, ASHA workers, nurses, and doctors who served without risking their lives in the era of Covid-19.

      Her idea of   establishing a ‘child-killing prevention home’ for widows is alive today in the form of orphanages and women’s rehabilitation projects.

Education is a weapon – Savitribai’s message

          Savitribai’s philosophy of “Reading, writing, thinking – these are the true jewels of a human being” resonates today:

In the movement to strengthen government schools

In free education schemes for girls

In the educational struggles of Dalits and backward classes

Among the challenges before us.

Is just celebrating Jayanti enough?

Putting garlands on January 3 is not enough.

For Savitribai’s dream to be realized:

Every girl child should be in school

Education should not be a business but a right

      A society should be built where women live with respect. That is why Savitribai Phule must live within us.

Finally…

        Savitribai Phule was not a teacher who taught letters,

        She was a mother who taught the meaning of letters.

         Behind every educated girl child that we are proud of in today's India, there is a silent force – Savitribai Phule.

She should live not in the pages of history,

but in our conscience.
